1-2 July, 2025 – A two-day specialized training session aimed at enhancing supervision capabilities of Serbia’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), particularly in relation to accountants and factoring companies, in accordance with the country’s updated National Risk Assessment strategic and legal framework on anti-money laundering and terrorism countering financing (AML/CTF). The training gathered representatives of the Administration for Prevention of Money Laundering which is the supervisor of those sectors, and representatives of the Ministry of Finance.
Over the course of two days, participants took part in intensive sessions covering both theoretical and practical aspects of supervisory procedures. Topics included the current landscape of AML/CFT supervision in Serbia, guidelines and indicators for monitoring financial professionals, tools for off-site supervision, and methodologies for planning and conducting on-site inspections. The training emphasized case studies, group exercises, and the step-by-step execution of supervisory controls. Inspectors gained insights and practical tools for identifying risks, planning inspections, evaluating compliance procedures, and enforcing findings.
This training marks a continued effort to build robust oversight mechanisms in Serbia with particular focus on the riskiest sectors. Together with previously held trainings for supervisors in sectors of real estate and games of chance, it will contribute to resilience of non-financial sector to money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation financing.
The activity has taken place within the Project “Countering Economic Crime in Serbia”, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
