Action against Economic Crime in North Macedonia launches support to enhance effectiveness of sanctions for breaches of conflict of interest provisions

On 11 March 2024, the Action against Economic Crime in North Macedonia held the first meeting of the members of the working group responsible for drafting the proposals to amend the Law on prevention of corruption and conflict of interest in compliance with GRECO Recommendations.

During the meeting, the Council of Europe consultant presented the international standards and made proposals to the working group to consider when preparing amendments to the Law on combating corruption and conflict of interest. Furthermore, the Council of Europe consultant presented the analysis of the sanctioning regime under the Law on prevention of corruption and conflict of interest, with a focus on the effectiveness of the sanctioning regime for cases of violation of the Law.

The Action will continue providing support to the working group in drafting the amendments in keeping with the European standards at next meeting.

This activity was organised by Action against economic crime in North Macedonia, within the framework of the European Union/Council of Europe joint Programme Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye (Horizontal Facility III), co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
