Protecting data across borders

The Council of Europe will host a side event on its modernised data protection convention at the 40th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) in Brussels on Tuesday 23 November.

The side event will focus on the international importance of "Convention 108+", which was signed by 21 countries at its launch in Strasbourg on 10 October.

The modernised convention strengthens the principles and rules covering data processing within Europe and around the world.

The original Convention 108 has so far been signed and ratified by 53 countries, including all 47 Council of Europe member states plus Cabo Verde, Mauritius, Mexico, Senegal, Tunisia and Uruguay.
