Nils Muižnieks in Brussels

The Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Muižnieks, is visiting Brussels this week.

On Thursday 1 March, the Commissioner will speak about women’s rights – and notably the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention on violence against women – during the European Parliament’s plenary session.

He will also meet representatives of the European Union, including EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis, and the European Federation of Journalists before giving a talk entitled “Human rights in Europe: from crisis to renewal” at the Librebook book shop.

On Friday, the Commissioner will speak at the EU Council working party on relations with the OSCE and the Council of Europe before returning to Strasbourg.

This will be the Commissioner’s last official trip to Brussels before his six-year mandate ends on 31 March.
