Call for Applications: Environmental Journalism training programme for students

To the Attention of Journalism Students!

The Council of Europe is pleased to announce the call for applications for the "Environmental Journalism" training programme, which will take place in Shabran, Azerbaijan, on 31 August – 1 September 2026.

The training aims to equip participants with fundamental knowledge and practical skills in environmental journalism and to strengthen their capacity to report on environmental and climate change issues in a professional, accurate, and responsible manner. The programme will cover the core principles of environmental journalism, key terminology, climate change, major environmental challenges, international climate negotiations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), data-driven journalism, and practical news writing exercises.

The event is organised within the framework of the Council of Europe project "Promoting Media Professionalism and Freedom of Information in Azerbaijan (PRO-M-FEX)."

Application deadline: 5 August 2026

To apply, applicants must complete the online registration form via the application link.

Applications are open to third- and fourth-year undergraduate students enrolled in journalism, media, or communication studies programmes. The number of participants is limited, and selection will be based on the motivation statement provided in the application.

The Council of Europe will cover the travel and accommodation costs of selected participants for the duration of the training.
