Azerbaijan Council of Europe training session for temporary detention centre officials: “Standards processing and respect for detainee’s rights, for a better detention service”

A group of 35 police officers from the different regions of Azerbaijan, and from the Baku state police detention improved their knowledge on Human Rights principles concerning detention and safeguards against ill-treatment in detention.

The topics covered within the 2-day training included the standards of processing and respect for detainee’s right with special focuses on the following topics: “Legal and ethical issues arising while securing custody of a person”, “Procedure to follow while receiving a person subject to placement into custody”, “Medical examination upon admission to the detention service”, “Judgments from the European Court of Human Rights in relation with ill-treatments in temporary detention centre.”

The training seminar took place from 26-27 April in Baku Azerbaijan, and it was funded by the Council of Europe Programme of Activities for 2022. The trainers were staff members of the Council of Europe from the CPT Secretariat, the Execution Department, and an independent international consultant.
