On 26 March, the Department for the Execution of Judgments participated in the expert meeting on judicial independence and the Rule of Law in Poland, organised in Warsaw by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The meeting gathered experts from the Government, the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Administrative Court, international organisations, associations of judges and prosecutors, and NGOs. It served as a forum for discussing reforms to be implemented by the Polish authorities to address the problem of the lack of independence of the National Council of Judiciary and its impact on judicial appointments. The Department presented information on the status of execution of the European Court’s judgments concerning the Rule of Law and judicial independence in Poland and position of the Committee of Ministers regarding the necessary general measures.
