Visit to the Netherlands on the execution of ECHR judgments

On 19 and 20 October 2022 the Department for the Execution of Judgments carried out a visit to The Hague to present the practice and procedures of the Committee of Ministers related to the supervision of ECHR judgments and discuss certain outstanding issues on pending cases concerning the Netherlands. Meetings were held with the Government Agent of the Netherlands, Ms Babette Koopman, and the members of her Office, as well as representatives from other ministries involved in the execution of judgments, such as the Ministry of Justice and Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Officials of Sint Maarten also participated in the meetings to discuss the case of Corallo v. the Netherlands, which concerns the conditions of detention on Sint Maarten. Further exchanges took place with Ms Taru Spronken, Advocate-General within the criminal section of the public prosecutor's office, and Mr Martijn Polak, vice-president and president of the civil chamber of the Supreme Court. The delegation was also received at the Council of State, and in an event moderated by State Councillor Ms Kathalijne Buitenweg, the work of the Department was presented to a large audience of State Councillors and Legal Advisors.
