[07 November 2006]

The next EDC/HRE coordinators meeting will take place in Brussels on 20 and 21 November 2006.

This 10th meeting of EDC/HRE coordinators will be hosted by the French speaking community of Belgium, and placed under the aegis of the Council of Europe Youth Campaign “All different - all equal”.

It will be the first meeting of the EDC/HRE coordinators under their new mandate, in the framework of the third phase of the EDC/HRE programme covering the period 2006-2009.

The coordinators will, on one hand, examine their role during the third phase of the EDC/HRE programme and, on the other hand, will discuss, inter alia, the following topics: democratic governance of schools, conflict prevention in intercultural settings, and Council of Europe contribution to the implementation of the United Nations World Programme for Human Rights Education.

The network of coordinators for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education was set up in 2001 by the Council of Europe in the framework of its programme for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education (EDC/HRE). The network is made up of representatives appointed by the Council of Europe member states. Their main function is to foster the development of EDC in their country and to liaise between national activities and the Council of Europe.
