News from Finland on the Follow-Up to the Council of Europe Charter

In summer 2010, the Finnish National Board of Education made changes to the national core curriculum for basic education and general upper secondary education (which came into force on 1 August 2010). The adopted texts refer to the Council of Europe work on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights as the basis and inspiration for the reforms. These measures are a direct follow-up to the Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education adopted in the framework of a Committee of Ministers Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)7 in May 2010. Finland also developed a self-assessment tool for student participation and student council activity in upper secondary school.
