More than 350 people – including EU Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou and Council of Europe Special Representative for Roma Issues, Jeroen Schokkenbroek – meet in Brussels on 17 and 18 January for the first ever Congress of ROMED Mediators.
Since January 2011, the Council of Europe's ROMED programme, which is jointly funded by the European Union, has trained more than 1,000 mediators working with institutions and Roma communities in 20 countries to help facilitate Roma access to education, employment and healthcare.
The Brussels event aims to take stock of the lessons learned over the past two years and discuss priorities for 2013-14. It will include input from ROMED mediators and trainers, NGOs and representatives of European and international organisations working in the areas of education, Roma inclusion and human rights.
The Congress takes place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Brussels (Rue Gineste 3) from 10am on Thursday 17 January.
