A Study Visit for representatives of the Working Group on Improving National Legislation on the Human Rights Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine and other Project partners was organized in Strasbourg on 12-13 January 2017.  

The two day Study Visit, organized by the Council of Europe Project «Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Internally Displaced persons in Ukraine », focused on Council of Europe standards on internal displacement, in particular relevant case law of the European Court of Human Rights and practical application of the Convention and other Council of Europe instruments.  

Among others, the delegation met the Director for Human Rights, Mr. Christos Giakoumopolous, the Special Advisor of the Secretary General for Ukraine, Mr. Regis Brillat, senior lawyers from the European Court of Human Rights, profile Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, as well as representatives from the Department for the Execution of Judgments, Department of the European Social Charter and HELP unit.

The Study Visit provided for a productive dialogue and practical discussions on both sides, with all concerned expressing keen interest in advancing further cooperation and partnership.

Ukraine is currently in the process of developing further legislation in the area of internal displacement.  The Study Visit enabled the delegation to explore closely Council of Europe Standards in the field and modalities for further alignment of Ukrainian legislation with international obligations .
