"We need to work closely with the Pompidou Group to tackle psycho-trauma, PTSD and Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) among Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)" said Vadim Chernush, Minister of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs during a round table organised by the Pompidou Group on 5 July in Kiev. Marten Ehnberg, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, participated in the opening of the event and stressed the importance of the Council of Europe project ‘Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine’, which aims to support Ukraine in developing quick-to-implement and sustainable responses to the psycho-social needs of IDPs. The roundtable discussion provided a platform for Ukrainian authorities (Ministry of Social Policy, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs, Ministry of Education) and international experts from Israel, Georgia and Germany to exchange experiences on effective policies concerning psycho-social support, preventing substance use disorders among IDPs, and improving community resilience and social cohesion.
