On 30 January 2017 the seminar “Regional models of the Public broadcasting in Europe” took place in Kyiv organised by the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine in the framework of the Project “Strengthening Freedom of the Media and Establishing a Public Broadcasting System in Ukraine”. Among the participants of the seminar – the members of the Supervisory Broad of the newly created Public Joint Stock Company “National Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Ukraine” (PJSC NPBU), key media experts, journalists, representatives of the State Committee for Television and Radio broadcasting of Ukraine as well as representatives of PJSC NPBU.
In his opening remarks Mårten Ehnberg, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, noted: “The Council of Europe has supported the development of regional model of Public broadcasting for many years. Regional branches of Public broadcaster in Ukraine can potentially become a provider of high quality independent media in the regions making these branches significantly important for local communities”.
The representatives of the European Public broadcasters - Ulf Morten Davidsen, Head of Administration of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation NRK, and Nicola Caligiori, International Relations Manager of the Italian Public broadcaster RAI, presented the structural and content organisation of the Norwegian and Italian Public broadcasters’ activity in the regions, shared the experience of the multiplatform broadcasting and also responded to the numerous questions of the seminar participants.

The Council of Europe Project “Strengthening Freedom of the Media and Establishing a Public Broadcasting System in Ukraine” is aimed to enhance the role of media and the public broadcaster in particular as an instrument for consensus building in the Ukrainian society. The Project is implemented in the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2015-2017. In 2017 the Project is financed from the budget of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2015-2017.
