On 25 April 2017, a focus-group meeting on introduction of mediation mechanisms into the procedural legislation of Ukraine took place in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The event was jointly organized by the Council of Europe project “Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine” and the All-Ukrainian non-governmental organisation “Ukrainian Bar Association”.

In the course of the meeting, judges, practicing lawyers and mediators discussed the draft law of the President of Ukraine “On amendments to the Commercial Procedural Code of Ukraine, the Civil Procedural Code of Ukraine, the Code of Administrative Procedure of Ukraine and other legislation” in the context of implementation of mediation mechanisms into procedural legislation.

Following the discussion, the participants of the event identified possible areas for improvement in the draft codes as regards the implementation of mediation into procedural legislation. Additionally, the experts compared the institutes of independent or court-bound mediation with the institute of settlement of a dispute with the participation of a judge.
