2nd Steering Committee Meeting of the Joint Programme between the European Union and the Council of Europe

On 19 May 2016 Council of Europe presented its achievements and further plans of activities in the sphere of enhancing human rights standards in Ukraine in the course of 2nd Steering Committee Meeting of the Joint Programme between the European Union and the Council of Europe "Strengthening the Implementation of the European Human Rights Standards in Ukraine", implemented as a part of Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Eastern Partnership countries.

Project team reported on its progress with the work plan implementation in 2015 -2016 within 3 Project's components - enhancing operational capacities of the Ombudsman office in Ukraine (prevention of ill-treatment in the places of deprivation of liberty, data protection and nondiscrimination), support to the police reform in Ukraine and fight against impunity, implementation of the European Convention of human rights through trainings - as well as hosted a fruitful discussion on current challenges in the mentioned spheres and activities with which Project team contribute to the reform process. Provision of expert support in the development of new legal framework compliant with the Council of Europe standards and best European practices has been a key priority for the Project, strongly empowered by the series of capacity building activities aimed on acquiring new skills and knowledge by all the partner institutions’ staff.

Steering committee of the Project discussed the work plan till the end of 2016, so the main Project objectives are achieved through effective contribution to the reform process in Ukraine.
