«Creative Europe»: new opportunities for Ukrainian media industry

On 10 March 2017 PCF CoE/EU Project “Freedom of media in Ukraine” organised seminar for representatives of media industry to present opportunities of “Creative Europe” programme. 25 representatives of media and film industries participated in the event.

“Creative Europe” is the European Commission's framework programme for support to the culture and audiovisual sectors. The total budget of the programme 1,46 bln euro. The programme consists of the following subcomponents: “Culture” (31%), “Media” (56%) and cross-sectoral cooperation (13%).

The “Media” subprogramme includes 14 sectors: European Film Forum; Distribution support; Audience development; Television Programming of Audiovisual European Works; Film Festivals; Training; Access to markets - Framework; Development of single projects and slate funding; International co-production funds; Reaching the audience – Cinema networks; Made in Europe; Video game development.

Since 2014 Ukraine became the part of the program. Now Ukraine can benefit from “Culture” subprogram and partly from “Media”, since its legislation in media sector is still not aligned with Directive on audiovisual media services (AVS).

The goal of the event was to present opportunities of "Media" subprogramme that are available to Ukrainian media companies and to present new possibilities that will be accessible for Ukraine after  adoption of the law on AVS.
