20 Serbian schools selected to foster a democratic culture

Following a public call published in May, a selection committee evaluated and chose 20 pilot schools from Serbia that will take part in the Action on Education “Fostering a Democratic School Culture”.

The committee was comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia and the Council of Europe. They were faced with a difficult task to handpick the best 20 schools from a myriad of excellent applications.

To qualify for selection, the schools were required to meet a set of predefined critera and demonstrate their motivation and readiness to improve their inclusive environment and fully promote the concept of democratic school culture through education, training, awareness raising, practices and activities with a specific focus on those who are at a higher risk of marginalisation and exclusion.

The selected schools will receive support and training and will serve as the frontrunners of model schools in Serbia. Action specific activities will start in September.
