Funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, Implemented by the Council of EuropeThe main partners and beneficiaries of the Project were the Ministry of National Defence and military judges, prosecutors and legal counselors.

The main objective was to provide tailor-made support to the Ministry of National Defence by strengthening its training capacity with regards to European human rights standards and raising awareness on the challenges for the Turkish military justice system in the light of these standards.

The following results achieved:

  1. A training system on human rights issues was developed for members of the Turkish military justice system and knowledge and skills of military judges and prosecutors were strengthened.
  2. The access of all military judges, prosecutors and legal counsellors at the Ministry of National Defence to translations of the ECHR, other relevant international instruments and the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights was improved.
  3. Awareness was raised on the challenges for military justice systems in Europe in the light of European human rights standards and recommendations to improve the Turkish military justice system have been discussed and published.
