From 18 to 22 May 2026, the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities held its 89th plenary meeting in Strasbourg.
The Advisory Committee adopted its final opinions on the implementation of the Convention by Croatia, the Slovak Republic and Ukraine. These opinions will become public in the autumn 2026 once the authorities' comments, if any, are received.
The Advisory Committee also approved its draft opinions on the implementation of the Convention by Poland and Slovenia, which will now undergo a confidential dialogue phase with the authorities concerned before being examined again and adopted at a forthcoming plenary session.
Besides, the Advisory Committee adopted its 15th Biennial Activity Report, covering the period from June 2024 to May 2026. The report will be made available on 23 September, when it is presented to the Committee of Ministers.
This plenary meeting of the Advisory Committee was the last one in its current composition. Among its 18 members, the mandates of the following ten experts will expire on 31 May 2026: Pedro Aguilera Cortés (Member in respect of Spain), Laura-Maria Crăciunean-Tatu (Romania), Tomáš Hrustič (Slovak Republic), Tove H. Malloy (Denmark), Egly Pantelakis (Cyprus), Klaus Poier (Austria), Petra Roter (Slovenia, President of the Advisory Committee), Roksana Rudeviča (Latvia), David Smith (United Kingdom, Second Vice-President) and Judith Wyttenbach (Switzerland). The Advisory Committee will have a new composition as from 1 June 2026.
