On 31 March, the Council of Europe Division on Migration and Refugees (DMR) organised the 23rd meeting of the Inter-secretariat Coordination Group on Migration (CGM), focusing on progress made by the Council of Europe in implementing its pledges under the Global Compact on Refugees. The meeting brought together representatives from across the Organisation, as well as UNHCR.
Participants reviewed developments since the latest reporting on the GCR pledges carried out in 2025 by DMR on behalf of the Council of Europe, and took stock of ongoing and planned activities concerning the four key areas covered by the pledges: intercultural inclusion, health, statelessness, and gender equality and protection. Presentations highlighted the rich and wide-ranging contributions of different Council of Europe entities enhancing refugees’ protection and social inclusion in European states, alongside continued cooperation with international partners.
The discussions helped identify main achievements, areas where further efforts are needed, and potential new commitments. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of coordinated, Organisation-wide action to ensure that migration and asylum policies remain firmly based on human rights standards.
