Moldovan civil servants strengthen capacity to combat racism and racial discrimination

Building on the achievements of the regional anti-discrimination project, specifically,  development of the anti-racism course and the successful implementation of a Training of Trainers programme, 27 representatives of the Equality Council, the People’s Advocate Office and the Agency for Interethnic Relations of the Republic of Moldova, have successfully completed the course and acquired additional knowledge and good practices in this domain.

The course based on the standards of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), namely General Policy Recommendation No. 7, EU Anti-Racism Action Plan (2020 - 2025) and EU Anti-Racism Strategy (2026 - 2030) increased participants understanding on the concepts of racism and racial discrimination, their causes and consequences, as well as the relevant European and international legal framework, including the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. The course also provided participants with practical tools to identify, prevent and respond to racism and racial discrimination in their daily work. Particular attention was paid to national legal and institutional frameworks and to the role of public authorities in promoting equality and fostering inclusive societies.

Following the course, participants will be able to translate their learning into institutional practice by promoting coordinated, rights-based responses to racism and racial discrimination, strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, and supporting the alignment of national policies and practices with European anti-discrimination standards.

This initiative is aimed to support public authorities in preventing discrimination, promoting inclusive societies and ensuring equal treatment for all in the Republic of Moldova.

This event was organised in the framework of the Council of Europe project Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova, financed under the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025-2028.
