@ Council of Europe

@ Council of Europe

The Council of Europe continues supporting the Azerbaijani prison system through aligning the legislative and regulatory framework with European standards.

On 8 September 2020, a draft Code of Ethics for Prison Staff in Azerbaijan was examined with the national partners and international consultant in an online working group meeting.

The presentation of the Draft Code by the international expert was followed by an in-depth review of its chapters. The representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Penitentiary Service and the CPT member from Azerbaijan provided their comments.

Based on the outcome of this first meeting and the feedback given by the national partners, a second working group meeting will be organized in the near future to finalise the draft Code with a view of its adoption.

This activity was organised by the EU and Council of Europe Joint Project “Support to the Penitentiary Reform in Azerbaijan” (SPERA 2), which is designed to promote effective prison management, health care in prisons and assist the reintegration of ex-offenders.
