Project: Democracy and Human Rights Expressed in Comics

  In the process of working on the comics, students developed respect for human dignity and empathy skills.
• Civic-mindedness
  During the preparation of the bullying presentation, the students involved in the project took responsibility for their own behaviour. They found information about bullying and saw what impact it has on a person’s life.
• Analytical and critical thinking skills
  Students independently found information about bullying. They selected an animated film that they thought conveyed the essence of oppression well. They facilitated the discussion with the elementary school students.They independently prepared comics to convey cases of bullying.

Short description of the project:

In the course of the project, school children explored several topics: equality, conflicts, and bullying. They searched for information and prepared materials which were presented to primary school students and explained the consequences of bullying and oppression.

Students involved in the project organised a seminar and a screening of an animated film addressing bullying and oppression. After watching the film, students had a discussion about bullying and equality. After the workshop, elementary school students created comics about bullying, conflict, and equality with the help of students. They tried to convey through pictures, comics and posters, what equality means to them, what conflict means, what is bullying and how a person feels when bullied. An exhibition / a viewing of primary school students' works, posters, comics and posters was organised by high school students.

Creating comics was very interesting and fun. The students came up with a story about bullying. They came up with animated characters.

The students made coloured glasses to watch the comics. It was explained to the them that wearing beautiful coloured glasses would reveal what is bad and enable them to see a life where there was only place for democracy and equality and no place for bullying. Students talked about which rights are violated by bullying. The students prepared posters, comics and slogans to convey what democracy is. They then organized an exhibition of their work, which was held in the school lobby.

A discussion was held after the exhibition. The guests explained how they felt, what they experienced when they watched the comics.
