On 10 September 2018 a test-session of the text version of the course “Internal Displacement: Legislation and Practice in Ukraine” took place in Kyiv.

The course has been developed by the Council of Europe Project “Internal Displacement in Ukraine: Building Solutions” (hereinafter – the Project) as Ukrainian add-on to the international HELP course on internal displacement.

The event gathered representatives of human rights NGOs, and the Project partner organizations: National School of Judges of Ukraine, Coordination Center for Legal Aid Provision, Notary Chamber of Ukraine, Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University, Volodymyr Dahl East-Ukrainian National University, Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs, Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University.

During the event, participants got acquainted with the HELP platform and international HELP online course on internal displacement which had been developed by the previous Council of Europe project on IDPs issues “Strengthening the human rights protection of internally displaced persons in Ukraine” in 2017.

Project experts Alla Fedorova, associate professor of the Department of Comparative and European Law of the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, Ph.D. and Valery Babko, judge of the Desniansky district court of Kyiv, presented the course “Internal Displacement: Legislation and Practice in Ukraine”. It covers relevant national legislation and national court practices and promotes systemic changes in the judicial and administrative approaches to protection of the rights of internally displaced persons.

Participants provided their comments on the content and technical aspects of the course.

The next step in the implementation of the course will be the training of trainers HELP to be organized by the Project at the end of 2018.

As a result, 20 trainers representing the abovementioned partner organizations will conduct trainings for different target groups of legal professionals in Ukraine (judges, lawyers of free legal aid, lawyers of human rights NGOs, MA students of law faculties, etc.). Each trainer and partner organization will receive relevant methodological support from the Project.
