Description
Zeche Zollverein is a coal mine industrial complex in Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia). The complex, founded in 1847, was one of the largest of its kind in Europe. The former coal washery, part of the UNESCO World Heritages Site, hosts the Ruhr Museum. The Museum illustrates the industrial history of the Ruhr basin. The Zollverein Foundation is in charge of the management of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
