The German Petroleum Museum includes various functioning technical relics from the period before 1930 as well as drilling and extraction equipment and utility vehicles from the decades after. The exhibition focuses on how oil is formed and how it is searched, extracted and processed. The Museum was set up on part of the former Wietze oil field, where oild was extracted from at least the 17th century. The German Petroleum Museum in Wietze is an Individual Site of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
