On 18 June 2026, the second Training of Trainers on Inter-Agency Co-operation was held at the Ministry of Justice in Ljubljana and online as part of the joint European Union – Council of Europe project “Ensuring the best interests of children in civil court proceedings in Slovenia”. The event brought together 88 professionals from courts, social work centres, forensic services, family mediators, civil society organisations, and guardians ad litem, to strengthen coordinated and child-centered approaches in civil court proceedings involving children.

Organised with the support of the Social Protection Institute of Slovenia, the training contributed to strengthening a shared understanding of institutional responsibilities and supporting more coordinated, child-centred practice across all actors involved before, during and after civil proceedings.

The training was based on the Handbook developed by the project together with, the Legal Centre for Human Rights and the Environment (PiC) and the Ministry of Justice (available in both Slovenian and English).

The training focused on enhancing professionals’ knowledge and practical skills, improving multidisciplinary co-operation, and supporting the effective implementation of children's best interests in civil proceedings.

Participants explored the role and tasks of centres for social work, child advocacy within the Human Rights Ombudsperson’s Office, guardians ad litem, court experts in family proceedings, family mediators, as well as the work of non-governmental organisations, particularly in the field of domestic and intimate partner violence.

The event concluded with interactive discussion, enabling participants to exchange experiences, address practical challenges and reflect on different professional perspectives related to cases involving children.
