The Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts on the Prevention of Violence (ENF-VAE) met on 19–20 March 2026 to advance its work on a draft Recommendation to member states on the protection of children against violence through age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education as a key measure to prevent and respond to violence against children.
Building on previous discussions, the Committee revised the draft Recommendation and its Explanatory Memorandum, taking into account comments received during consultations with member states and relevant partners at the 12th plenary meeting of the Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child (CDENF) (19–21 November 2025). These exchanges provided valuable input to further refine the draft text.
The Committee approved the draft Recommendation and instructed the Secretariat to update the Explanatory Memorandum in light of the discussions during its meeting.
The next steps will focus on finalising both texts with a view to submitting them to the CDENF for adoption at its meeting on 2-4 June 2026.
