Council of Europe Secretary General, Alain Berset, will pay an official visit to Serbia on 5-6 March.

The programme of the visit includes meetings with the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić; Prime-Minister Đuro Macut; the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić; Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić; and Justice Minister, Nenad Vujić. The visit will also include an exchange with students from the Belgrade University’s faculty of law and meetings with civil-society representatives in the framework of the preparations for the New Democratic Pact for Europe.

"Political pluralism is at the heart of our organisation, so I am planning to meet with representatives from across the political spectrum in Serbia during my visit,” the Secretary General stressed.

"I am coming to Belgrade with a clear message – in moments of political tension, the basics matter most: healthy rule of law, independent institutions and respect for shared European standards and international obligations. These basics are what keep democracies stable and citizens confident in their future. And they are essential for Serbia's European path – and for democratic security on our continent," Alain Berset noted.

As part of the visit, the Secretary General will also meet with the staff of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade and representatives of the international community in Serbia.
