Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) joins the University Network for Cultural Routes Studies

In March, the Breda University of Applies Sciences officially joined the University Network for Cultural Routes Studies after signing a general framework cooperation agreement with the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR).

The university has been actively involved in different research and education fields related to cultural routes and mainly tourism, heritage, identity and community development, new technologies, urban and territorial planning, storytelling. Its specialisation is closely linked to the digital and immersive technologies such as (AR/VR/XR) games and data-driven simulations and AI-based modelling) aimed to design touristic experiences. 

BUas has played a significant role in the implementation of the NEXT ROUTES project aimed to enhance and update the skills of Cultural Routes staff in digital and creative competencies, supporting their successful transition into the digital era. The Phoenicians’ Route was the lead partner of this project run from 2023-2025 that involved other 6 certified Cultural Routes from 6 countries.

Breda University of Applied Sciences is actively involved in other numerous national projects focused on leisure, storytelling, and the development of story-driven routes, further strengthening its role in shaping innovative experiences.

The University Network for Cultural Routes Studies seeks to strengthen academic research on the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. It encourages student engagement with these topics, promotes participation in the Programme’s annual initiatives, and provides scientific expertise to support its activities.
