The CPT held its first plenary meeting in 2022

The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) held its 107th plenary meeting in Strasbourg from 28 February to 4 March 2022. The meeting took place in a hybrid format with most members attending in person.

During this meeting, the CPT adopted the reports on its periodic visits to Bulgaria (October 2021) and the Russian Federation (September/October 2021), as well as on its ad hoc visits to Albania (November 2021), Bosnia-Herzegovina (October 2021) and Greece (November/December 2021). These reports will be sent in due course to the respective Governments.[1]

In addition to discussing Government responses to previous visit reports and preparing future visits, the Committee held an exchange of views with Professor D. Marcelo F. Aebi, School of Criminal Sciences, University of Lausanne (Switzerland), on the Council of Europe Annual Penal Statistics (SPACE) and recent developments and trends in prison populations in various Council of Europe member States.

[1] In accordance with Article 11, paragraph 2, of the CPT Convention, visit reports and related Government responses are published only at the request of the authorities (on a case-by-case basis or through a so-called "automatic publication procedure”).
