Trainings organised by the International Training Center for the Safety of Journalists and Media Professionals (ICSJ):

  • A specialized training session was organized by the International Training Centre for the Safety of Journalists and Media Professionals in cooperation with UNESCO btween 18-21 June 2024, in Thessaloniki. This specialized joint training draws upon UNESCO's extensive expertise and instruction materials to provide a comprehensive program tailored specifically for law enforcement officials and media professionals.
  • Under the coordination of the International Training Centre for the Safety of Journalists (ICSJ) along with the Peace Journalism Lab, the School of Journalism and Mass Communications of Aristotle University Thessaloniki, the Jean Monnet Chair for European Public Diplomacy, and the Hellenic Multinational Peace Support Operations Training Center organize the annual "Safety for Journalists” Training School, with the support of Secretariat General of Communication and Media, Digital Communication Network Global, Journalists Union of Macedonia and Thrace and Friedrich Newman foundation, the third "Safety for Journalists” Training School will take place between 16-18 March 2026.
  • This three-day program is designed to provide journalists with both theoretical and practical knowledge to be able to respond to war zones or hazardous environments (Hazardous Environment Awareness Training - HEAT). It includes topics such as field safety, first aid, survival in hostile environments, digital security and information management, with the aim of strengthening international protection of press freedom and giving journalists tools to safely cover conflict. The school was held at the Multinational Peace Operations Support Center and included practical field training from a certified Special Forces center of the Hellenic Army.
  • New subject in Hellenic Police Academy curricula on freedom of expression and safety of journalists: The Hellenic Police, in collaboration with UNESCO and the ICSJ, have introduced a new subject entitled: “Freedom of expression and information – Freedom of the Press” in the Constitutional Law – Human Rights course of the first year at the Cadets Academy of the Hellenic Police. The new module is a direct result of the participation of the Ministry of Citizen Protection in the Task Force for the Protection, Safety and Empowerment of Journalists and Other Media Professionals, which is coordinated by the Secretariat General for Communication and Media. The lectures will be organized with the participation of representatives of the journalistic community and police officers, with the aim of strengthening dialogue, cultivating mutual understanding and developing collaborative practices that will contribute to the protection of rights and strengthening trust and interaction between the police and the media.
