Powrót 15th Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in Yerevan, Armenia

The 15th Annual Advisory Forum on the Cultural Routes will be dedicated to deepening the role of Education in promoting sustainable heritage through the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe takes place from 23-25 September in Yerevan, Armenia focusing on “Routes through Time and Cultures: Education for Sustainable Heritage”.

The forum will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, from 23 to 25 September, co-organised by the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia, in partnership with the European Institute of Cultural Routes, the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Armenia, and the Foundation for the Development of Culture, with the support of the Municipality of Yerevan.

During the Forum, several important meetings of stakeholders of the Cultural Routes programme will be held, including an informal meeting of members of the Governing Board of the Enlarged Partial Agreement; a meeting of the 52 certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, a meeting of the University Network for Cultural Routes Studies and of independent experts.

The Forum is taking place within the capital city of the Republic of Armenia, Yerevan, one of the world’s oldest cities, which combines a rich historical heritage with a vibrant contemporary culture. Its archaeological sites, traditional crafts, and dynamic cultural life provide practical opportunities for experiential learning, while its evolving urban environment fosters creativity and innovation. As the host city of the Forum, Yerevan offers participants a unique setting to experience education through culture and heritage firsthand, making it an ideal space for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative initiatives.

The programme features a series of general sessions and, a novelty this year, interactive breakout sessions where participants are invited to share their own experience. There will also be a certification ceremony for the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe that have received certification in 2026 and awards recognising inspiring practices of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.

Over the course of three days, participants at the Forum, which includes representatives from Council of Europe member states as well as cultural heritage scholars and practitioners, are examining a wide range of strategies and initiatives aimed at education for cultural heritage. The 15th edition places education and heritage at the centre of its agenda. Culture and education are mutually reinforcing forces that enrich societies, promote inclusion, and ensure access to knowledge and heritage for all. As indicated by the Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society education is key to an understanding of cultural heritage as a driver of the cultural economy, and a means of integrating heritage into learning processes at all levels. Education not only safeguards our cultural legacy, but also inspires and empowers future generations, transmitting values and nurturing a shared European identity.

The principal output of the Forum will be a Recommendations Framework providing guiding principles, strategic directions, and practical approaches for the programme of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. The framework will support Routes in developing stronger and impactful educational activities, integrating cultural heritage into diverse learning practices, and fostering inclusive participation.
