The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen (Herrenhäuser Gärten) is a complex of four English and French baroque-style gardens, whose design started in 1666 at the behest of Princess Sofia of the Palatinate. The Great Garden (Großer Garten) in Herrenhausen is known as one of the most important baroque gardens in Europe.
