Назад Commissioner Hammarberg visits Greece to discuss the situation of asylum seekers and minorities and police conduct

[05/02/10 14:30] The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas Hammarberg, will visit Greece from 8 to 10 February to discuss with the authorities issues relating to the protection of human rights of asylum seekers and minorities, as well as police misconduct.

The programme of the visit includes meetings with the Prime Minister, the Vice-President of the Government, the Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, the Minister for the Protection of the Citizen, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Decentralization and e-Governance and the General Secretary for Immigration Policy. Further meetings are planned with the Ombudsman, the National Commission for Human Rights, UNHCR and representatives of civil society and minorities.

Commissioner Hammarberg will also visit settlements in Patras and the Attica Immigration Department (Petrou Ralli Street).

The visit follows up on the Commissioner's reports published in February 2009.
