Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge will participate in the presentation of the Roma Foundation for Europe's report on Roma in Ukraine: “Fighting for a Fairer Future: The Impact of the War in Ukraine on Roma and Lessons for Post-War Reconstruction Efforts”. Youth Seminar and Policy Symposium on the Active Political Participation of National Minority Youth will be organised.
Hungarian Parliamentary Assembly delegation leader Zsolt Németh will open the Youth Seminar on Monday 17 June to encourage national minority youth participation in politics.
Associate professor at the Centre for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz and member of the Council of Europe’s Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, Emma Lantschner, will outline key elements of the Council of Europe’s Recommendation on the Active Political Participation of National Minority youth, adopted by the Committee of Ministers in 2023.
Hungarian State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security Péter Sztáray and Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge will deliver opening remarks for the Policy Symposium on the active political participation of national minority youth on 18 June.
The opening session of 17 June will be open to media, so will be the entire day of 18 June.

The Council of Europe will participate in the 2024 edition of the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG), which will bring together representatives of governments, international organisations, business, civil society, academia and the technical community to discuss in internet-related public policy issues.
On 19 June, the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, Marija Pejčinović Burić, will deliver a keynote address on AI and human rights.
The Council of Europe’s delegation will co-organise a number of events, placing the focus on the impact of the metaverse on human rights, new cybercrime challenges, how to tackle disinformation, frameworks to foster online safety, data protection, and the recently adopted Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence.

In a plenary meeting, the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) will examine, with a view to their adoption, evaluation reports on Andorra, Monaco and Switzerland assessing measures to prevent corruption and promote integrity in the top executive functions of their central governments and in their national police forces.
It will also consider follow-up reports on Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia evaluating their compliance with its recommendations on the same subjects and on Romania, Spain, San Marino and Switzerland concerning the prevention of corruption in respect of parliamentarians, judges and prosecutors.
On 20 June, GRECO will hold a special session to mark its 25th anniversary. Speakers will include Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge, President of the European Court of Human Rights Síofra O´Leary, and President of the Parliamentary Assembly Theodoros Rousopoulos.

On the occasion of the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, recurring on 18 June, the Commissioner for Protection of Equality and the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade will organise a conference called “Combating hate speech - address the root causes by promoting dialogue and tolerance”, as part of the joint EU/CoE action “Combating discrimination and promoting diversity in Serbia”.
The event aims to raise awareness of the negative consequences of the risks posed by hate speech to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law and take action to implement the principles of the Committee of Ministers Recommendation on Combating Hate Speech.
Opening remarks will be given by Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković, Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Tomislav Žigmanov, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia Emanuele Giaufret, and Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade János Babity.

To mark the International Day to Counter Hate Speech (18 June), the Council of Europe will launch its first “No Hate Speech Week”.
- The programme will include sessions on content moderation, media literacy and education, victim support, hate speech in sports, disinformation, hate speech and media, working with targeted groups, including Roma and Travellers, LGBTI persons, migrants and refugees.
The Week will be opened on 18 June at 9.30 am by the Council of Europe Director of Equal Rights and Dignity Jeroen Schokkenbroek, the European Commission Director of Rule of Law, Fundamental Rights and Democracy Julien Mousnier, a Representative of the Parliamentary Ombud Office of Lithuania Erika Leonaitė, the General Rapporteur on combating racism and intolerance of the Parliamentary Assembly Fourat Ben Chikha and the Rapporteur on “hate speech and fake news” of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Wilma Delissen-van Tongerlo.
The No Hate Speech Week 2024 will be hosted by the Lithuanian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and made possible through the EU/CoE joint project “Increasing Civil Society Organisations’ knowledge and capacities to tackle hate speech online”.
- As part of the “No Hate Speech Week”, on 18 June at 5.30 pm, an award ceremony will be organised by Joint EU/CoE programme Quality and Freedom from Discrimination for Roma (EQUIROM), to announce the winners of the “Journalism Excellence Awards - Ethical reporting on Roma and fight against racism and antigypsyism”.
Five media professionals were selected from the media sphere applicants (print media, TV media, photographers, reporters, journalists, etc.) in all the Council of Europe member states to reward their outstanding work in terms of quality journalism, free from bias and stereotypes, which objectively reports on Roma-related issues, or promote a positive image of Roma.

On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, the Council of Europe will organise the seminar “Supporting confidence at 18”.
The seminar will focus on sharing practices of projects and initiatives, and discussions will be focused around the Recommendation on supporting young refugees in transition to adulthood, five years since its adoption by the Committee of Ministers.
Participants of the seminar will be youth workers or young people with lived experience of migration, as well as representatives of ministries of youth concerned with the topic.
