On 17 April 2026 in Chișinău, Moldova State University (MSU) officially joined the University Network for Cultural Routes Studies after signing a general framework cooperation agreement with the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR).

The Moldova State University (MSU) demonstrates strong academic expertise in fields closely related to cultural routes, including cultural heritage, history, geography, local development, cultural cooperation and tourism economics. The university offers accredited Master’s and PhD programmes that integrate modules on cultural heritage management, wine tourism, and European culture and history.

Beyond its academic programmes, MSU is actively involved in several international projects. These include “InnoVillage,” which uses digital solutions to support the revitalisation of rural cultural heritage; “HERIPRENEURSHIP,” aimed at enhancing the economic value of heritage for tourism development; and Empowering young women: Sustainable livelihoods through tourism, a UN Tourism supported initiative.

With extensive international partnerships, active participation in Erasmus+ mobility programmes, and the EC HR Excellence in Research award, MSU has established a strong foundation for effective cooperation at European level. Its clear internationalisation strategy, combined with practical involvement in heritage and tourism initiatives, positions the university as a valuable member of the network.

The University Network for Cultural Routes Studies aims to foster research on the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, encourage students to explore these themes in their academic work, participate in the annual activities of the Programme, and offer scientific research where needed.
