Alongside the Forum’s debates on the future of democracy, a series of side events will offer participants and the wider public opportunities to explore democratic values through culture, art, music and storytelling.
The programme features several exhibitions, including Culture vs War, by Ukrainian photographer Sergiy Mykhalchuk, highlighting the role of cultural identity and artistic expression in resisting totalitarianism and countering disinformation. Visitors will also be able to discover an exhibition dedicated to the European Convention on Human Rights, exploring the rights it protects and the impact of the European Court of Human Rights’ decisions.
Two documentary screenings will offer powerful insights into the realities of conflict and resistance. Tickling the Devil (2 November) explores the personal consequences of war photography, while The Secret Reading Club of Kabul (3 November) tells the story of young Afghan women who risk their lives to preserve freedom of expression and access to knowledge under Taliban rule.
Music will also take centre stage. The Crimean Tatar composer and pianist Usein Bekirov and his trio will bring contemporary Ukrainian jazz to the Palais de l’Europe, while a traditional Breton bagad will perform on 2 November. On 3 November, the six musicians of Las Baklavas will take audiences on a musical journey blending Balkan and Latin American influences.
Beyond the Forum, the exhibition Defend Democracy!, presented by Cartooning for Peace to mark its 20th anniversary, will open at Villa Schutzenberger on 5 November and run until 31 December 2026.
Through these diverse cultural and artistic initiatives, the side events will provide additional opportunities to reflect on the challenges facing democracy, celebrate freedom of expression and highlight the importance of cultural diversity and solidarity.
