How can democracies prepare for the future while strengthening democratic security today? This question shaped discussions at the World Forum for Democracy 2026 in Strasbourg on 2 November.
Through nine parallel sessions, participants explored how citizens, institutions and local authorities can work together to anticipate emerging challenges and strengthen democratic resilience.
Discussions addressed a wide range of issues, including civic participation, intercultural inclusion, cooperation between Europe and Africa, demographic change, disinformation and the role of economic actors in democratic resilience.
Participants also examined how foresight exercises and innovative approaches to political processes can help societies better prepare for future developments.
The exchanges highlighted a common priority: building stronger democracies requires inclusive participation, forward-looking policies and closer cooperation across society.
