On 29 and 30 January 2026, a delegation of the Venice Commission and the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI) of the Council of Europe conducted a visit to Bratislava, Slovak Republic, in preparation of the Joint Opinion on the draft legislative amendments regarding the criminal offence of abuse of law. The Opinion was requested by Mr Boris Susko, Minister of Justice of the Slovak Republic.
The delegation had exchanges of views with the Minister and other representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court, the Specialised Criminal Court, the Parliament, the Judicial Council, and the Office of the Prosecutor General . The delegation also met with civil society organisations, international partners and with representatives of the European Commission Representation to Slovakia.
The draft Opinion will be submitted for adoption at the 146th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (6-7 March 2026).
