On 16 and 17 March, a Venice Commission delegation visited Belgrade in preparation of the Urgent Opinion on the 28 January 2026 Amendments to Laws Governing the Judiciary and the Prosecution. The opinion was requested by the President of the National Assembly, Ms Ana Brnabić.
The delegation held exchanges with the President of the National Assembly, the Minister of Justice, Members of Parliament, and representatives of the High Prosecutorial Council, the High Judicial Council, the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Special Department for the Suppression of High-Tech Crime, and the Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime. It also met with civil society organisations, professional associations of judges and prosecutors, as well as representatives of the European Union Delegation to Serbia and other international partners.
The Venice Commission will issue the urgent opinion in the coming weeks. The urgent opinion is scheduled for endorsement at the 147th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (12-13 June 2026).
