By letter dated 22 September 2026, Ms Gunn Marit Helgesen, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, requested an Opinion of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe on transitional provisions of Romanian Law no. 180/2026 concerning the loss of mandate of local elected representatives.
The draft opinion is scheduled for discussion and adoption at the 149th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (11-12 December 2026).
