On 4 and 5 February 2026, a delegation of the Venice Commission conducted a visit to Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, in preparation of the Opinion on legal amendments to combat electoral corruption. The Opinion was requested by Mr Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
The delegation had exchanges of views with the President of the Parliament, the Parliamentary Legal Committee on Appointments and Immunities, including representatives both of majority and opposition parties, the Superior Council of the Magistracy, the Constitutional Court, the President’s councillor on justice, the Security and Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Justice, the Central Electoral Commission, the prosecution service and the courts, the National Anticorruption Centre, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as with some representatives of civil society and international organisations represented in Moldova.
The draft Opinion will be submitted for adoption at the 146th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (6-7 March 2026).
