Following a request from the Marshal of the Sejm of Poland, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI) are preparing a Joint Opinion on the draft law “on reinstating the right to a fair trial and hearing the case without undue delay”, proposed by the President of the Republic of Poland, for adoption at the 147th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (12-13 June 2026).
On 14 and 15 April 2026, a delegation from the Venice Commission and DGI visited Warsaw, where they held meetings with the Speaker of the Senate as well as members of the Sejm and Senate, the Minister of Justice, the First President as well as judges of the Supreme Court, the representatives from the President’s Chancellery, and the Deputy Commissioner of Human Rights. The delegation also met with representatives of civil society organisations and judicial associations.
