Poland: Venice Commission issues an Urgent Joint Opinion on the draft law concerning the status of judges appointed or promoted between 2018 and 2025 and other related matters

On 27 February 2026, following the request of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Venice Commission issued an Urgent Joint Opinion concerning Poland on the draft law concerning the status of judges appointed or promoted between 2018 and 2025 and other related matters. The Urgent Opinion was prepared by the Venice Commission jointly with the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI) of the Council of Europe.

The Urgent Joint Opinion will be submitted to the Commission for endorsement at its next Plenary Session (Venice, 6-7 March 2026).
