Exhibition in Venice open to the public: “La Democrazia attraverso il Diritto. Dalla Serenissima Repubblica alla Commissione di Venezia del Consiglio d’Europa”

The exhibition “La Democrazia attraverso il Diritto. Dalla Serenissima Repubblica alla Commissione di Venezia del Consiglio d’Europa” (“Democracy through Law: From the Serenissima Republic to the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe”) was inaugurated on 11 October 2025 in Venice, Italy, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the Venice Commission.

This unique exhibition, hosted in the Appartamenti del Doge at the Palazzo Ducale, invites visitors on a compelling journey through the history of democracy and the rule of law — from the legacy of the Serenissima Republic of Venice to the modern-day member states of the Council of Europe, under the expert eye of the Venice Commission. The exhibition showcases documents, artefacts, and insights that illuminate decades of democratic development.
The exhibition is the result of collaboration between the Venice Commission, the Council of Europe Programme Office in Venice, the Soprintendenza Archivistica e Bibliografica del Veneto e Trentino-Alto Adige, the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE), and the Consiglio Regionale del Veneto.

The exhibition was open to the public until 6 January 2026.
