Lima - On 29 and 30 January, a delegation of the Venice Commission conducted a visit to Lima, Peru, to prepare the Opinion on the draft amendments to Article 99 of the Constitution of Peru on the accountability of the members of the electoral management bodies. This Opinion was requested by the President of National Jury of Elections of Peru on 5 August 2024. The Venice Commission delegation met with the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vice President of the Congress of the Republic, Prosecutor General, Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Constitutional and Supreme Courts, Presidents of National Jury of Elections (JNE), The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC), as well as representatives of international organisations and civil society organisations. The draft Opinion will be submitted to the 142nd Plenary Session of the Venice Commission on 14-15 March 2025 for its adoption.
