In the framework of the preparation of the draft joint opinion of the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR on the amendments of the German Federal Election Act and their compliance with Council of Europe standards, a joint delegation of rapporteurs and experts met with the following interlocutors:
• MPs, representing the various political groups (CDU/CSU, AfD, FDP, Bündnis 90/ Die Grünen, SPD, die Linke) ;
• Representatives of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community:
- Directorate-General V “Public Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law”
- Directorate VI “Public/ Constitutional Law, European/ International Law”
- Division VI. 5 “Electoral law, Law on Political Parties”.
The draft joint opinion will be submitted for adoption by the Venice Commission at its 135th plenary session (Venice, 09-10 June 2023).
