New York City – The Secretary of the Commission Mr Thomas Markert attended a conference “Contemporary Challenges to the Independence of Judges and Lawyers from a Global Perspective”. The event was organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of the judges and lawyers Mr Diego Garcia-Sayan, and the New York City Bar Association. The purpose of this meeting was to assess the challenges and threats vis-á-vis the existing United Nations Basic Principles on the Independence of the Judiciary, adopted in 1985.
